Jason McGovern Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Based out of the Philly suburbs, McGovern rearranges and adapts old words with new sounds and new experiences with things familiar. Often joined by his compatriots (still called the Describers) and leaning on his (loosely-defined) Americana influences, McGovern can take his songs from something contemplative and folky to something a little more rock-n-roll. ... more

Track Name: Margin
It was scribbled in the margin of the page
Written off, ignored for many days
A help for when I wanted, the blame for every chore
But there it stayed and it was nothing more

Slowly, then, my heart began to find
It needed words beyond the margin line
I learned that when I needed it on call
I saw it wasn't written down at all

But then it came, the sudden change
The ink began to overtake the page
Every single letter, every little dot
Was covered over by a crimson blot

Every now and then I still to try
To keep the ink left of that red line
But there it cannot, will not ever stay
And it moves back to the center of the page
Track Name: A Closer Walk (Acoustic Demo)
Oh for a closer walk with God
A calm and heavenly frame
I light to shine upon the road
That leads me to the Lamb

Where is the blessedness I knew
When first I sought the Lord?
Where is the soul refreshing view
Of Jesus and his Word?

What peaceful hours I once enjoyed
How sweet their memory still
But they have left an aching void
The world can never fill

Return O Holy Dove return
Sweet messenger of rest
I hate the sins that made Thee mourn
And drove Thee from my breast

The dearest idol I have known
Whatever that idol be
Help me to tear it from Thy throne
And worship only Thee

So shall my walk be close with God
Calm and serene my frame
So purer light shall mark the road
That leads me to the Lamb
Track Name: Break Out (Acoustic Demo)
Slickly suited and sharply dressed
The parade of generations can never rest
Marching on to the tempo of the wind
As it cycles on and on without end

Old ideas, forgotten or abused
Are rebranded once again as something new
But we just linger as the haze of our breath on bitter days
As we toil on and on without gain

The curtain open for the shortest time
I need a spoiler before the closing line
So I don't careen into my final scene
Would you break me out of this tragedy?

Each feeling and sensation is never satisfied
As we bear our frustrations from the glory we denied
Though we try to walk on, claiming that we're filled
I know my heart is weary still
